Watch care
It is important that your watch is well looked after in order to maintain accuracy & protect its appearance. Remember every brand and model has its own care guidelines. So please refer to the manufacturer’s instruction or warranty of your watch.
Power cell replacement
If your power cell needs to be replaced we recommend you bring it into Michelangelo to be replaced. Keep power cells away from small children. Seek immediate medical attention if ingested.
Temperature care
Do not leave your watch in hot or cold places for long periods of time. Extreme heat can shorten a power cell’s life of a quartz watch while extreme cold may cause your watch to gain or lose time.
Shock-resistant
Avoid severe shocks such as dropping your watch on a hard surface.
Magnetic-resistant
Keep your watch away from magnets.
Chemical/gas resistant
Your watch must not be exposed to chemicals or gases for long periods of time as discolouration, deterioration, or damage to case, band or other components may occur.
Watch cleaning
Remove any stains or water spots on the case, glass or band with a soft cloth.
Handling water-resistant watches
Even though your water-resistant watch is warranted please adhere to following steps to avoid damage:
- Do not operate the push-button in the water or while the watch is wet.
- Should the watch become immersed in water dry it off immediately. If immersed in salt water rinse the watch with warm fresh water.
- If a watch is wet from cleaning or by accident, do not store it in a closed container. Dry it immediately or bring it in to Michelangelo if the moisture is inside the case. This is in order to prevent damage from rust.
General watch strap care
- Perfume and moisturiers should not be worn around your wrist as the chemicals erode the metal, leather and plastic watchstraps.
- Try and not leave your watch in direct sunlight as this fades leather and plastic straps.
Care for metal bracelets
Follow this advice to maintain the good appearance of a metal watch bracelet:
- As your watch is worn next to the skin, it collects dust and perspiration and becomes soiled if not cleaned regularly.
- Perspiration should be wiped off your watch and bracelet with soft dry cloth. The bracelet should be cleaned from time to time with an old toothbrush and warm soapy water. Be sure to rinse the soap off the bracelet with clear water and dry the bracelet completely.
Care for leather straps
- Be sure to remove perspiration off your leather strap. Perspiration can wash out leather’s natural oils as well as causing leather to become dry and deteriorate. Blot any moisture with a soft dry cloth or paper towel.
- If soiled clean the leather strap with a damp soft cloth and mild soap/saddle soap.
- Clean the inside surface of the leather strap from time to time with a soft cloth dampened with alcohol. Always wear your strap a little loosely to allow air to circulate, causing any moisture to evaporate.
Care for rubber straps
- Rubber straps should be washed frequently with mild soap and warm water using a soft brush, especially after immersion in salt water.
- Solvents, oils, perspiration, tanning lotion and salt can cause the rubber to deteriorate if not removed.
Remember to get your watch inspected once a year as rubber gaskets and other seals in the watch deteriorate over time and use. Water leakage may occur if the gaskets and seals are not checked regularly.
